Choral Liturgical Music –Psalms with Voices

As a result of attrition and illness, our choirs have been rather knocked about and have become depleted in numbers and in health to the point that we have now made a very considered decision after much consultation, to defer the CCJNSW Choral Concert which was part of the Sacred Music Festival, to 12 November 2011 at 7.30pm.

THE AUSTRALIAN BYZANTINE CHOIR

The choir in its present form was established by George Combis, protopsaltis of the Church of All Saints, Belmore, Sydney in 1998. The choir is based in Sydney Australia and it consists of 22 young Greek-Australians, devoted to the dissemination and study of the Greek Orthodox musical tradition. Led by its choirmaster Mr. George Combis, the choir has chanted in many church services and has appeared at places and festivals such as Sydney Festival, Australia Day, St Andrews and St. Mary’s cathedrals, Sydney University, Enmore theatre, Carnivale Christi and many others including invited appearances in Melbourne and Brisbane.

 

EMANUEL SYNAGOGUE CHOIR

Emanuel Synagogue Choir, under the direction of Andrea Catzel, sings beautiful songs from the Jewish Musical Liturgy of the Sabbath and various holy Festival Days. These are all sung in traditional A Capella style. THE CHOIR OF ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI, PADDINGTON

The Choir of St. Francis of Assisi, Paddington, is an active liturgical choir of men and women (SATB), with full membership of 40 voices. Led by Noel Debien,the Choir sings responses, acclamations and hymns of the liturgy, enhancing congregational music by way of harmonising, providing descants and singing choral music from the treasury of sacred music. The choir’s offering in worship and prayer is united with the corporal works of mercy so fundamental to the Christian and Franciscan ethos. 
Its repertoire 
is varied Gregorian Chant to polyphonic Mass parts and Motets by composers of the 16th and 17th and later Centuries.
